Movelat Gel is a specialised topical gel that contains two active ingredients: mucopolysaccharide polysulfate (MPS) (0.2%) and salicylic acid (2.0%). This gel provides effective relief from various conditions and can be used for the following purposes:
- Alleviating inflammation and pain in strains and sprains.
- Easing muscle stiffness and discomfort.
- Soothing inflammation and pain in non-serious arthritic conditions, as well as cases of rheumatic pain.
The unique formulation of Movelat Gel allows it to penetrate beneath the skin's surface. By combining the power of MPS, an anti-inflammatory agent, with salicylic acid, which enhances absorption, this gel ensures easier penetration through the outer layer of the skin. The salicylic acid aids in softening the skin, while the MPS is absorbed, working synergistically to provide targeted relief to the affected areas.
Manufactured by Genus Pharmaceuticals, Movelat Gel is available for both adults and children aged 12 years and above. To utilise its benefits, simply apply the gel to the skin surrounding the affected areas up to four times daily.
How does Movelat Gel work?
Movelat Gel is formulated with two potent active ingredients: mucopolysaccharide polysulfate (MPS) and salicylic acid. MPS serves as an anti-inflammatory agent and pain reliever by effectively reducing the production of leukotriene and prostaglandins. These naturally occurring substances are generated by the body in response to injuries and certain diseases, contributing to pain, swelling, and inflammation. When Movelat Gel, enriched with MPS, is applied to the affected areas, it effectively mitigates the discomfort and diminishes pain.
The inclusion of salicylic acid in Movelat Gel further enhances the skin-penetrating capabilities of MPS. By breaking down keratin, a protein component of the skin's structure, salicylic acid facilitates the shedding of the outer layer of the skin. This process not only promotes the removal of dead skin cells but also creates a smoother pathway for the gel to penetrate and exert its beneficial effects.

The active ingredients contained in this medicine are: Mucopolysaccharide Polysulphate (MPS) 0.2% w/w, Salicylic Acid 2.0% w/w.
The medicine also contains the following inactive ingredients: Carbomer, disodium edetate, isopropyl alcohol, monoethanolamine, polyethylene glyceryl-oleate, rosemary oil, water.
Movelat Gel side effects
Not everyone will experience side effects when they take medication, however, if you do they can include:
- Some people may experience local discomfort if the cream or gel is used in hot weather or after a bath
- Allergic skin reactions, such as redness, burning sensation and rash, may occur in people who are allergic to salicylates
- Stop using this medicine and consult your doctor if your skin gets sore or irritated while using it

Movelat Gel warnings

- Not recommended for children under 12 years
- Keep out of sight and out of reach of children
- Avoid applying more than the recommended dosage

- Store the gel below 25 degrees
Movelat Gel pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, always seek medical advice before using Movelat, as it is not recommended for use whilst pregnant. Whilst there is no evidence that Movelat can have an adverse effect if used by a breastfeeding mother, still seek advice from your doctor before using this medication.
