Sildenafil citrate (the active ingredient in Viagra) was originally developed to treat high blood pressure and angina pectoris. Pfizer’s initial discovery opened a profound and global conversation about erectile dysfunction, but now this exclusive patent has come to an end — the race to replace viagra is on.
