What is Piriteze Allergy & Hayfever Sugar Free Syrup and what is it used for?
Piriteze Allergy & Hayfever Sugar Free Syrup is an over-the-counter medication commonly used in the UK to relieve symptoms of allergies and hay fever in children aged 2 years and older.
How does Piriteze Allergy & Hayfever Sugar Free Syrup work?
The main active ingredient in Piriteze syrup is cetirizine hydrochloride. Cetirizine is a type of antihistamine, which means it works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance produced by the body during an allergic reaction. Histamine is responsible for causing symptoms like itching, sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.
How do I use Piriteze Syrup?
For oral use.
Use the spoon provided to make sure you have the correct dose.
Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: Two 5 ml spoonfuls once daily.
Children aged between 6 and 12 years: One 5 ml spoonful twice daily morning and evening.
Children aged between 2 and 6 years: Half a spoonful (2.5 ml) twice daily morning and evening.
Children under 2 years: Not recommended.
If you have kidney problems, you may need to lower the dose see leaflet for further advice. Do not take/give more than the label tells you to.
Piriteze Syrup ingredients
Each 1 ml of oral solution contains 1 mg of cetirizine hydrochloride. Also includes sorbitol (E420), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216). See leaflet for further advice.
Piriteze Syrup side effects
Like all medicines, Piriteze Children’s Hayfever & Allergy Syrup can have side effects, but not everybody gets them.
Below is a list of the most common. Please see the patient information leaflet contained within the product packing for a full list.
- Headache or dizziness
- Drowsiness or tiredness,
- Restlessness
- Dry mouth
- Sore throat
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhoea
- Nausea [feeling sick]
- Runny nose.
Piriteze Syrup warnings
If you have ever had an allergic reaction to antihistamines (or if you have severe kidney problems) you should consult your doctor before taking Piriteze or any other antihistamine.
This medicine does not normally make you feel sleepy. However, everyone reacts differently. If you do feel sleepy do not drive or use tools or machines. Avoid alcoholic drink If symptoms persist, or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, consult your doctor.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
