Spedra Tablets (50mg, 100mg & 200mg) information

What are Spedra tablets?

Spedra tablets are an ED medication. Spedra works by promoting blood flow towards the penis, which results in a heightened ability to maintain erections. This blood flow will only occur during sexual stimulation, so Spedra does not allow you to skip the foreplay.

Spedra is available in three doses, 50mg, 100mg and 200mg. It is recommended you start on 100mg, but all of the doses can be prescribed depending on your needs, by our qualified, UK-based doctors.

Avanafil as an ED treatment

The active ingredient of Spedra tablets is the drug avanafil (avanafil is also sold under the brand name Stendra in the US). This is a PDE-5 inhibitor, a drug which tackles ED by increasing the blood flow to your penis once you have become aroused. Other PDE-5 inhibitors are: Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra.

Read about the differences between Spedra vs Viagra in more detail here.

Is avanafil available in the UK?

Avanafil is available with a prescription in the UK from your doctor/GP or a registered online pharmacy. You will be required to complete a medical consultation in order to buy avanafil and Spedra tablets.

What is Spedra 100mg?

Spedra comes in 50mg,100mg, and 200mg dosages. It is recommended that you start by taking the 100mg tablets.

Spedra 200mg tablets are the highest dosage available and are prescribed to men who have tried lower dosages or other ED treatments without success.

A Spedra 200mg tablet should be strong enough to treat almost all cases of ED. However, like all ED medication, there is a chance of little or no effect, particularly if it is one of the first times the medicine is being used. If a certain dose of Spedra isn't working, it is advised that you try it at least eight times before deciding to switch to another dose or medicine.

If side effects such as headaches or flushing appear, and persist after several uses of the medicine, you might want to consider another treatment or a reduced dosage.

Read more about the possible Spedra side effects here.

Does Spedra work?

Spedra treats ED by dealing with the physical causes that prevent a man from achieving an erection – reduced blood flow to the penis as a result of blocked or narrow arteries. ED can also be caused by psychological reasons, such as anxiety or depression. It is possible that Spedra can help in achieving an erection when ED is caused by psychological symptoms. In these cases, it is recommended that advice from a doctor or therapist is sought for a long-term solution.

How long does it take for Spedra to work?

Spedra is one of the fastest solutions for ED available – it can take effect in just 20 minutes, and this can last for up to 4 or 5 hours. However, if you have recently eaten prior to taking Spedra then it can take up to 90 minutes for the medication to work.

What are the most common side effects of Spedra?

The following side effects can appear when using Spedra:

Common – may appear in up to 1 in every 10 people:

  • Flushing
  • Nasal congestion
  • Headache

If any of these concern you, or Spedra causes any other side effects, consult with a doctor or pharmacist.

Not everyone will experience side effects, read this guide for more information on Spedra side effects.

Is Spedra better than Viagra?

The active ingredient of Viagra is sildenafil citrate. While both Spedra and Viagra allow you to achieve and then maintain an erection for up to 5 hours, Viagra takes an hour to take effect, while Spedra becomes effective after just 20 minutes.

Read this guide for more information on Spedra vs Viagra.

Which erectile dysfunction treatment is best?

There are a large number of ED treatments available and the best one for you will depend on your medical circumstances and personal requirements:

  • Cialis – Best if you want a long-lasting ED treatment and a well-known brand
  • Sildenafil – Best if you want a cheaper alternative to Viagra
  • Spedra – Best if you want a fast-acting ED treatment
  • Tadalafil – Best if you want a long-lasting and cheaper alternative to Cialis
  • Viagra – Best if you want a well-known ED treatment that lasts 4-5 hours
  • Viagra Connect – Best if you do not have a prescription for ED medication
  • Vitaros – Best if you have found other ED medication to be ineffective

Spedra tablets (50mg, 100mg & 200mg) reviews

When looking for reviews of Spedra tablets it is important that you check the websites where the reviews are posted. Some of the different things for you to consider when assessing the website(s) hosting Spedra reviews are:

  • What is the posting process – how are the reviews regulated?
  • Does the website employ registered medical professionals to monitor and curate the posts?

If you are in doubt about the accuracy of the Spedra reviews you are reading, remember that it is always best to seek advice from a registered medical professional.

Spedra dosage

  • You should take one Spedra tablet around 30 minutes before sex
  • Spedra can take up to 60 - 90 minutes to take effect in some men if it is taken on a full stomach after a large meal
  • Spedra can produce an effect for up to 4 – 5 hours
  • You should never take more than one tablet for erectile dysfunction (Spedra, Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra) in a 24-hour period
  • You should take Spedra on an empty stomach and try to limit your alcohol intake to ensure it remains effective

Spedra does not always work for everyone the first time they use it. If this is the case you should not give up, guidance states that you should try Spedra at least 8 times before trying an alternative ED treatment. If you find Spedra tablets effective and do not experience any serious side effects you can request a repeat order via your online account. If you followed the above guidance and still find Spedra ineffective you may wish to increase the strength of your Spedra tablets, or alternatively try a different medicine such as Viagra, Cialis or Levitra.

Spedra ingredients

Each Spedra tablet contains avanafil as the active ingredient in either 50mg, 100mg or 200mg.

Spedra side effects

Not everyone will experience side effects from Spedra, although they are more likely if you have never taken Spedra before or if you take Spedra 200mg due to their high strength. If you do experience side effects from Spedra tablets they may include

  • Headache, flushing
  • Lightheadedness
  • Rarely a stuffy nose
  • Indigestion

Spedra has a small risk of nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and skin rash as with all medicines. Please read the Patient Information Leaflet enclosed with your medicines for a full list of side effects.

Read this guide for more information on Spedra side effects.

Spedra warnings

Do not take Spedra:

  • If you are allergic to avanafil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • If you are taking “nitrate” medicines for chest pain (angina), such as amyl nitrite or glyceryl trinitrate. Spedra can increase the effects of these medicines and severely lower your blood pressure
  • If you are taking medicines for HIV or AIDS such as ritonavir, indinavir, saquinavir, nelfinavir or atazanavir
  • If you are taking medicines for fungal infections such as ketoconazole, itraconazole or voriconazole or certain antibiotics for bacterial infections, such as clarithromycin or telithromycin
  • If you have a serious cardiac problem
  • If you have had a stroke or heart attack in the last 6 months
  • If you have an irregular heartbeat (“arrhythmia”) or heart problems that run in your family, as shown on a heart tracing (ECG)

  • If certain serious eye problems run in your family (such as retinitis pigmentosa).

Do not take Spedra if any of the above apply to you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Spedra.

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Spedra:

  • If you have heart trouble. It may be risky for you to have sexual intercourse
  • If you suffer from priapism, that is a persistent erection lasting 4 hours or more. This can happen in men with conditions like sickle cell disease, multiple myeloma or leukaemia.
  • If you have a physical condition that affects the shape of your penis (such as angulation, Peyronie’s disease or cavernosal fibrosis)
  • If you have any bleeding disorder or active peptic ulceration.

If any of the above apply to you talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Spedra. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Problems with your sight or hearing

Some men taking medicines like Spedra have had problems with their sight and hearing – see “Serious side effects” in section 4 for more details. It is not known if these problems are related directly to Spedra, other diseases that you may have or a combination of factors.

Spedra with food and alcohol

Grapefruit juice can increase exposure to the medicine and should be avoided within 24 hours prior to taking Spedra.

Drinking alcohol at the same time as taking Spedra may increase your heart rate and lower your blood pressure. You may feel dizzy (especially when standing), have a headache or feel your heart beating in your chest (palpitations). Drinking alcohol may also decrease your ability to get an erection.
